Nkhata Bay District civic education desk officer Chisomo Kambandanga says the establishment of civic hubs will help to drive mindset change agenda among community members.

He said this on Wednesday when the district council mentored Mankhambira Area Development Commmittee on how to run the Area Civic Education Hub.

Kambandanga, who is also Nkhata Bay district information officer, said the training sought to equip the Area Development Committee with knowledge and existence of the hubs to avoid conflict with other local structures.

Mankhambira: We will support the hub

“We also engaged other community leaders to introduce to them the hub and its duties such as encouraging people to embrace mindset change on development and other issues,” he said.

Mankhambira Area Development Committee chairperson Hastings Mugabe welcomed the development, saying the hub will strengthen other structures as it is has a unique component of advocating mindset change.

He asked the hub not to work in isolation, but ask for guidance from other structures.

“We now understand what the hub will be doing and we will ask the community to provide the necessary support,” said Mugabe.

On his part, Traditional Authority Mankhambira said he will discuss with his subordinates on how to mobilise resources for the hub’s operations.

The meeting was organised by Nkhata Bay District Civic Education Hub with funding from The Department of Civic Education in the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture.
